LG will officially unveil AI-focused LG G7 ThinQ on May 2

  • G has finally offered some official details regarding its upcoming flagship smartphone.
  • The company confirmed earlier rumors that the phone will be called the LG G7 ThinQ.
  • It also announced that the phone will be unveiled in New York on May 2 and Seoul on May 3.

After months of speculation, LG has finally given some official word about the LG G7 ThinQ. In a post on its official Korea blog, the company confirmed that the phone will indeed be called the LG G7 ThinQ. It also said the phone will be unveiled in New York on May 2 and in Seoul on May 3.
Unfortunately, other than its name, there isn’t much specifically mentioned about the hardware itself. The post doesn’t even include an image of the phone, despite that fact that seemingly official press renders were leaked at the weekend.
Instead, LG puts a lot of emphasis on the phone’s AI features, specifically vision and voice AI. This is similar to the approach the company took with LG V30S ThinQ that was released earlier in the year and other ThinQ branded LG products. The focus on AI lends a bit of credibility to rumors that suggest the phone would have a dedicated AI button.
LG will first unveil the phone at Metropolitan West in Manhattan, New York on May 2. There will also be a second unveiling at the IPark Mall in Seoul on the May 3.
In a statement, LG Electronics managing director Ha Jeong-wook said that the company has stopped focusing on new features and functions, and is instead focusing on giving customers a more convenient user experience.
The release of the G7 ThinQ is likely to be an important one for LG as it will be the first brand new flagship phone since the company announced its change in strategy. This reportedly included a complete rethink of what was then just called the LG G7, which resulted in its delayed release. In comparison, the LG G6 was unveiled in February 2016, almost two months earlier in the year than the upcoming unveiling of the G7 ThinQ.
