NAIJ.com notes that Mnangagwa aka ‘The Crocodile’ had fled the country after he was fired by the former president, more than two weeks ago.
Mugabe had reportedly fired his former deputy, in order to pave the way for his wife to take over the country’s leadership.
On Wednesday, November 22, thousands of Mnangagwa’s supporters gathered at the airport and the ZANU-PF headquarters, to await his arrival.
However, to many other Zimbabweans, 'The Crocodile’ , who served as Mugabe’s right hand man for his entire career, is even more feared than his former boss.
The secretary general of the main opposition party, MDC-T, disclosed that his party was seeking to gain inroads in the next general elections scheduled for next year.
He stated: “We are very excited that we have gotten rid of Robert Mugabe, but we have gotten rid of one man. We have not gotten rid of the system that was oppressive for 37 years.
“Therefore, we have to work towards conditions for free and fair elections. The Zimbabwean people still have to choose a president by themselves.”
